Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGf) is composed two polypeptide subunits of A and B chain. PDGf is produced by a number of cells including smooth muscle cells endothelial cells and macrophages. The PDGf gene is highly conserved and is mapped to human chromosome 7p22.3. PDGf is structurally and functionally related to vascular endothelial growth factors.

Epidermal Growth factor (EGf) is a small mitogenic polypeptide (A¼6kDa) present in many mammalian species and distributed throughout a wide number of tissues and body fluids. four ErbB (HER) family receptor tyrosine kinases including EGfR/ErbB1 ErbB2 ErbB3 and ErbB4 mediate responses to EGf family members. Human and mouse EGfs are very similar but not identical in their physical and chemical properties. Of the 53 amino acid residues comprising each of the two polypeptides 37 are common to both molecules and three disulfide bonds are formed in the same relative positions.

fibroblast Growth factor-4 (fGf4) is a 19 kDa protein belonging to the fGf family of proteins. fibroblast growth factors (fGf) are glycoproteins concealed in the extracellular matrix and cell surface. There are around 22 different types of fGfs known. These factors weigh in the range of 17 to 34 kDa and they possess a conserved sequence of 120 amino acids. The fGf4 gene is mapped to human chromosome 11q13.3.

IL-1 (interleukin 1 ) is a proinflammatory cytokine produced in a variety of cells including monocytes tissue macrophages keratinocytes and other epithelial cells. It is synthesized as a pro-IL-1 which is changed to active form IL-1 with the help of pro-inflammatory protease caspase-1. IL-1 belongs to the IL-1 gene family. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 2q14. Recombinant human IL-1 is a 17.3kDa protein containing 153 amino acid residues.

Since fGf-Basic is found in a variety of organs acts on a wide range of cell types and has multifunctional actions it has acquired numerous synonyms including heparin-binding growth factor (class II or beta) eye-derived growth factor I cartilage-derived growth factor and astroglial growth factor II5. Purified bovine and human fGf-basic differ by 3 amino acids in sequence3 and are biologically and immunologically cross-reactive.

fLT3LG (fms-related tyrosine kinase 3 ligand) is a transmembrane glycoprotein and a ligand for fLT3 receptor. It is widely expressed in human tissues. The protein exists in membrane bound as well as secreted forms. Binding of fLT3LG to fLT3 results in receptor dimerization activation of the tyrosine kinase domain autophosphorylation and thereby activation of the receptor. Recombinant human flt3-Ligand is a soluble 17.6kDa protein consisting of 155 amino acid residues.
